The Danger of Bias

In a nation ruled by the people, the media and educators play a vital role.  Voters need unbiased reporting. and the historic knowledge to place news into context.

That reality makes the leftist bias of most news, academic, and entertainment outlets deeply troubling.  It’s not just bias that is disturbing.  Major stories that do not fit in with progressive views are frequently ignored.

Presidential candidate Joe Biden’s recent bizarre statement that blacks who vote Republican aren’t really black is a prime example.  The media didn’t make much of the comment, despite the fact that both the historic and current record of the Democratic Party is hardly conducive to black interests. It’s hardly mentioned that it is the party that started a Civil War to protect slavery, then pursued segregation in the Reconstruction era.  It is the party that idolized Margaret Sanger, who staunchly advocated abortion explicitly to reduce the number of black babies being born.  Its “Great Society” economic policies, perhaps inadvertently, created economic conditions that delayed blacks from moving into the middle class. An educational system overwhelmingly dominated by Democrats refuses to teach those facts to students.

The bias makes reasonable debate politically risky; conservative viewpoints are inevitably portrayed as cruel.  Consider the new third rail of political discourse: Those who criticize any spending program produced in the name of COVID, no matter how pointless, ineffective, excessive, corrupt, or even wholly ridiculous, will be castigated as heartless.

America urgently required quick, clean legislation that simply provided cash to those in dire need.  But Democrats loaded Covid bills with items that benefited them politically. The media ignored the scandal, the same way they continue to ignore the inexcusable refusal of Nancy Pelosi to allow the House to return to work on a timely basis at a time of dire national need.

Consider the debate over how to distribute COVID relief funds.  For America to return to economic normalcy, businesses need to be able to reopen and hire back employees. Federal legislation provides $600 weekly benefits to those who are out of work, in addition to state unemployment funds.  It’s a generous benefit.  Some out of work recipients are now making more than they did when they were working.

Ulcers are meant to go on their own due to cialis tab divorce or widowhood. Medicines and therapies can treat enlarged prostate and erectile viagra sales dysfunction. acquisition de viagra This coffee contains a chemical that can cause dangerously lower blood pressure. Large dinners or lying down after big meals and wearing close-fitting clothing and belts can raise discount levitra online the pressure inside the stomach.

But those benefits are unaffordable for the nation in the long run.  Our grandchildren will be paying off that debt.  Businesses that have been forced to close need to be able to reopen, rehire, and pay taxes.  But attempts to funnel assistance to them is portrayed as tilting towards capitalists at the expense of workers—sheer nonsense. That logic doesn’t fit the progressive preconceptions of the media elites, so discussion of it is not widely covered.

President Trump campaigned in 2016 against China’s growing monopoly on vital industries and its increasing hostility.  He was prophetic, but the media ignores that.  In January of 2020, he shut down travel to the U.S. from China.  Democrats portrayed him as “racist and xenophobic.”

In large, progressive-run cities, a failure to timely acknowledge the COVID threat led to disaster. New York became the worldwide epicenter of the disease, due to the refusal of the hard-left mayor and his clueless health commissioner to acknowledge the threat.  On an almost a daily basis, the city’s mayor and his state’s governor absurdly blame the White House for the mistakes made by city hall and the governor’s mansion.  The reality that Governor Cuomo’s deadly decision to place COVID patients in nursing home, causing vast numbers of needless deaths, receives little more than a shrug from the national media.

As the 2020 presidential campaign moves forward, Democrats nonsensically seek to place blame on the White House for the spread of COVID.  They ignore explicit evidence that China maliciously, negligently, or both is solely responsible. They take that position because to not do so would be to admit that they have been wrong all along, and that candidate and then President Trump made the right call.

You will rarely see that analysis reported.

The Mind of the Media

The 21st Century has seen extraordinary events involving pandemics, riots, impeachment attempts, international threats, and other near-apocalyptic issues. Much of the media’s presentation of related news has reflected partisan views rather than actual facts.

Reporting on foreign affairs has been tainted by the goal of many journalist to divert federal spending away from the military and towards social programs.  To this end, reality is ignored. China has escalated its military spending faster than either the USSR or the USA at the height of the Cold War.  It openly threatens its neighbors, and actually has sent its naval vessels to illegally lay claim to their territory. It has developed a formidable nuclear force.  It has destroyed an orbiting satellite.  Russia, thanks to an arms treaty signed by Obama, owns the world’s largest nuclear force. Iran’s leadership consistently chants “Death to America.”  All that is downplayed, because to admit it would mean that the Left, which essentially owns most of the major media outlets, is irresponsible in its attempt to underfund the U.S. military, which still suffers significantly from the Obama Administration’s years of cutbacks.

Trump derangement syndrome has made coverage of the pandemic ludicrous. The COVID-19 virus began in China, and the Beijing regime hid the information from the rest of the world, allowing its citizens from the most affected regions to travel across the planet. The ruling Communist Party used its influence on the World Health Organization to help obscure the truth. President Trump stopped travel from China when all this was discovered, and was branded a “racist” and “xenophobe” for doing so.  He convened a national panel to fight the disease.  The Democratic leadership of America’s largest city, New York, ignored the threat and actually encouraged people to take the subways and attend crowded events. It soon became the planetary epicenter of the contagion.  But the media casts Trump as being responsible for the epidemic, because, of course, all bad things are Trump’s fault.

The House hearings on Democrat charges of Russian Collusion nearly tore America apart, but the charge made no sense and had no basis from the start. Why would Putin want to help Trump? Obama promised Moscow that he would further weaken America’s missile defenses upon his re-election, a fact inadvertently revealed when he spoke, not realizing his microphone was on. His administration allowed the sale of the basic ingredients of nuclear weapons to Russia. He took actions which allowed Moscow to overtake Washington’s influence in the Middle East. He ignored the growing military feebleness of America’s NATO allies. Candidate Trump promised to overturn these drastic mistakes. In an attempt by his party to retain the White House in the 2016 election, key current and former Democratic supporters in the Department of Justice and the intelligence services concocted an utterly false story that the Trump campaign “colluded” with Russia.  Despite a complete lack of evidence and charges proven to be completely false, the media clings to the collusion narrative that led to the impeachment hearings. To admit their bias and error would be too painful an admission.

The doses should commander cialis be taken as per doctor s prescription. Herbal order cialis online products are often made of a mix of these. This whole process when goes in proper way make penile organ becoming erect with high quality. viagra pills australia

On another irrational note, The Trump Administration’s economic policies produced the lowest unemployment rate for blacks in history.  Its policies to stop illegal immigration directly assist African-American communities in a variety of ways. It has appointed Blacks to major positions.  But the media has decided that it is racist, because the Democratic Party “owns” the black vote, and anything that threatens that plantation mentality contradicts the media narrative that the Trump Administration doesn’t help blacks. There have been a number of incidents when police have been accused, in some cases accurately and some times not, of abusing black Americans.  The media has generally placed blame on the Republicans.  Ignored is the reality that in almost all cases of very real abuse, the leaders of the jurisdiction involved, and their appointees, are solidly left-wing Democrats, as is the example of Minneapolis with George Floyd and was the case in Los Angeles with Rodney King.  Indeed, most of the cruel and inappropriate actions against blacks occur in major cities run by Democrats.  As a Ballotpedia https://ballotpedia.org/Largest_cities_in_the_United_States_by_population study reveals, 75.4% of the population of the top 100 cities lived in cities with Democratic mayors. Of the top 10 cities, only San Diego has a Republican mayor. Cities with serious racial incidents, including Minneapolis, New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, and Philadelphia, all have Democratic mayors.  The media ignores the fact.

Equally ludicrous is the allegation that the Trump Administration favors the wealthy. Until COVID struck, the Trump Administration achieved the best unemployment rate in about half a century.  His policies to force industries to move back to the U.S. from abroad are unprecedented, contrasting sharply with the actions of his predecessor. (Remember Obama saying that “Those jobs are gone and not coming back?”)  The bulk of plutocrat donations go to his opponents.  But the media has decided that Trump is for the rich, not the middle class or the poor, because, while lowering taxes for all, he also pushed lower taxes for corporations, which were previously moving out of the U.S. to more tax-friendly nations, and taking their jobs with them.

Most of the media has essentially abandoned the concept of honesty, and serves largely as a spokesman for leftist organizations.

Ignoring Bipartisanship

The news media hasn’t dwelled very much on the near-unanimous bipartisan success of two legislative items concerning Hong Kong and animal cruelty, discussed in a prior New York Analysis of Policy and Government article. One concerned the prevention of animal cruelty. The other, actually a collection of two bills, dealt with measures aimed at Beijing for its attempts to illegally deprive the people of Hong Kong of their civil rights.

Bipartisanship can occur. There is another version of America, not covered by the media, desperately wishing that the nation’s business would start to take precedence over party politics.  But the news media doesn’t like that idea—it’s not controversial, and doesn’t provide ratings or clickbait. Nor does it comply with its hard-left political leanings.

There is clearly a cancer in the news business.  Recently, the Washington Times reported that Bloomberg News has blatantly stated that they would not cover investigate Democrat candidates, while continuing to examine President Trump. “Shortly after the billionaire jumped Sunday into the 2020 race, Bloomberg News Editor-in-Chief John Micklethwait said in a staff memo that the news division would refrain from investigating Mr. Bloomberg, his finances and his family, describing that policy as part of its journalism ‘tradition.’ In addition, he said, Bloomberg News will refrain from conducting investigations into Mr. Bloomberg’s Democratic rivals — but will continue to investigate President Trump and his administration — and that several Bloomberg editors and editorial board members will jump temporarily to the campaign.

While dwelling almost pathologically on any inartful use of language or Twitter decorum by Republicans, extremely bizarre statement by Democrats are barely mentioned.  Former presidential candidate, Senator, Secretary of State and First Lady Hillary Clinton was a virtual production line for statements that would have ruined any GOP career, but she remained largely shielded by many key media sites. Just one example:  “Who is going to find out? These women are trash. Nobody’s going to believe them,” speaking of the accusing statements made by women her husband molested or raped.

All of which brings former Vice President Joe Biden into the discussion.   Biden has a long history of truly weird acts and comments, which have received more play on Saturday Night Live then they have in establishment news sources.  His invasion of the personal space of females young and old has been caught numerous times on camera. His antics, most notably in the vice-presidential debate with Paul Ryan, were outside the bounds of any definition of normality. But these have received scant notice.

However, there is an tadalafil in canada added bonus to this method since it also helps you achieve and maintain a solid erection. UK citizens have been struggling to come to terms with the fact and investigate the viagra free consultation cause of the impotence in men.

Now, however, Biden is, according to some estimates, a front runner for the 2020 presidential election.  According to some estimates, he is far ahead of his rivals in national ratings. There are serious questions about his mental fitness for the position.  America has survived presidents lacking personal scruples (think Bill Clinton), odd personalities (Richard Nixon) and many who were ineloquent. But there are serious questions about his mental fitness, and that is whole other level of concern.

These concerns are not just the criticism of Republicans or conservatives, or even his Democratic primary opponents.  (By the way, the portrayal of Biden as a moderate are as far off as the attempts to characterize him as a “blue collar” guy.  His policies are solidly on the elite left. He only looks less radical when compared to the most extreme elements of his party.)  They come from individuals who one would reasonably assume would be firmly in Biden’s camp.

Biden served as President Obama’s Vice President, and was wholly supportive of him and his policies.  Obama’s refusal to endorse Biden or support his campaign in any way speaks volumes. It gets worse for the ex-VP. Obama campaign strategist and key Democrat operative David Axelrod has been especially critical.

Many in the media see Biden as the strongest candidate to defeat President Trump, and so reporting on the possibility of mental fitness issues has been light.  The barons of the media seem to prefer partisanship to the safety of the nation.

The Dangers of a Divided America

The recent obituary in the Washington Post describing the planet’s most horrendous terrorist as “an austere religious scholar” stands in marked contrast to the purple prose it has used to describe President Trump.

Politically motivated excesses are not new, but the extremes to which the left-leaning news media, and those with similar views in Hollywood and academia now subscribe to are true concerns for worry.  The reality is increasingly clear and deeply troubling: much of the America’s leftist establishment feels more in common with Karl Marx, Mao Zedong, and Nicolas Maduro than they do with Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, or all those people that believe in the U.S. Constitution.

Listen to Bernie Sanders, Elizabeth Warren, or Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. Review the lecture notes from most political science departments at colleges when describing comparative governments.  Follow the actions of some American institutions, such as the National Basketball Association, as they immediately genuflect towards Beijing as teams trade away their beliefs in the Bill of Rights in return for the chance to make a fortune in China.  Observe the employees at Google who seem more comfortable dealing with Xi Jinping than the U.S. military.

A free republic like America can easily withstand the abandonment of its ideals of personal liberty by some who, for monetary, psychological, or ideological reasons have drifted towards authoritarian philosophies, even those, like socialism, which have failed completely and repeatedly across the globe for nearly a century.   But what is happening, indeed, what has happened, is not the intellectual defection of disaffected individuals, but the wholesale abandonment of America’s ideals by major institutions, including much of the news media, almost all of academia, and the entertainment establishment.

The entertainment industry has abandoned traditional ideals for the most obvious of reasons.  Beijing has poured vast amounts of its great wealth into that business.  Whether in the production and distribution of shows in the TV and movie enterprises, or the ability to market and capture sporting audiences in the vast Chinese population, the barons of sports and entertainment have openly and shamelessly sold their souls for cash.

These steps have been able to solve the puzzle of happy life, while some people remain unsuccessful to canadian pharmacies tadalafil do the same. As per the experts it purchasing here buy cheap viagra has been seen and also concluded that people need to have a good and trusted site which does not provide products with bad or fake components. These medicines work by acting on the central nervous system in order to achieve the discount viagra desired erection. There generic tadalafil are various other procedures are associated with different signs.

The leftist tilt in journalism is, ultimately, a product of the extreme bias in academia.

Academia has been dominated by those on the left to an extraordinary degree. Writing in Inside Higher Ed, Samuel Adams notes:

“…higher education is now ruled by an ever-growing professional class of administrators who call the shots outside the classroom. They not only have deep influence over campus politics and student life via offices such as the Dean of Students, Offices of Diversity and Inclusion, Student Success, and Engagement and Leadership, but they are also more liberal than any other occupational group in the nation…Two-thirds of administrators self-identify as liberal, with 40 percent of that liberal pool stating that they are far left. A quarter of them call themselves middle of the road, while only 5 percent say they are on the right. That makes for a liberal-to-conservative ratio of 12 to one.”

A Forbes article by George Leef reports that “A good many educators take seriously the idea that teaching is a political activity and accordingly feel justified in using their classrooms as platforms for spreading their social, economic, and philosophical beliefs. They want to act as “change agents” who will improve the world…Most of those educators have been imbued with a leftist cast of mind – hostile to capitalism, private property, and anything that stands in the way of their utopian visions of a just society brought about through government power. Instances like the …ones at UC Santa Barbara (where a professor physically attacked a student who was peacefully protesting abortion) and Eastern Connecticut (where a writing professor went off on a rant about how evil Republicans are) are pretty common.”

Journalist come from journalism schools, which share the same extreme-left bias as the rest of the universities to which they are attached.

The salient question is whether America, as a nation guided by a Bill of Rights and a Constitution that so many on the left consider irrelevant, and a nation that requires at least some degree of unity in the face of threats from terrorists such as the late al-Baghdadi and powerful national enemies such as China and Russia, can survive in a disunited state?

Media Ignores Good News on Economy

Conspicuously missing from the headlines throughout most of the media is the growing strength of the American economy, due to the change in the White House following the 2016 elections.  That reality simply fails to meet the dire, and totally incorrect, predictions of a biased media that the return to traditional American economics following the failed, leftward path of the Obama Administration would produce salutary effects.

Total nonfarm payroll employment rose by 304,000 jobs in January, far surpassing market expectations (165,000) January 2019 marked 16th consecutive month of employment growth of at least 100,000 new jobs. Numerous sectors experienced job growth in January, including mining and logging (7,000), transportation and warehousing (27,000), construction (52,000), education and health services (55,000), and leisure and hospitality (74,000). The economy has added 4.9 million jobs since January 2017 and 5.3 million jobs since President Trump was elected.

The Wall Street Journal reports that “U.S. stocks post their best January in 30 Years…Gains by banks and small caps helped lift the Dow and S&P 500 to their best starts since the 1980s….”

The 163,229,000 who participated in the labor force equaled 63.2 percent of the 258,239,000 civilian noninstitutionalized population, an increase from the 62.9% when the Obama Administration left office.

Market Watch reports that Manufacturing jobs have grown at fastest rate in 23 years.

This is a vital statistic. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, President Obama’s tenure in office presided over the loss of over 300,000 manufacturing jobs. The former president was rather nonchalant about that reality, stating, as his administration was winding down to its final months, that “some manufacturing jobs ‘are just not going to come back.’”

Obama’s legion of admirers in the media wholeheartedly agreed with the former president’s gloomy and incorrect analysis.

Forbes noted that “…as the shock of a President-elect Donald Trump was still being absorbed, New York Times columnist and economist Paul Krugman tweeted on November 25, 2016, ‘Nothing policy can do will bring back those lost jobs. The service sector is the future of work; but nobody wants to hear it.”

Well, a funny thing happened—Trump’s policies, and just as importantly, the expectation of Trump’s policies, ignited a manufacturing resurgence…In the first 21 months of the Trump presidency… manufacturing employment grew by 3.1%, reversing the trend under Obama … Comparing the last 21 months of the Obama administration with the first 21 months of Trump’s, shows that under Trump’s watch, more than 10 times the number of manufacturing jobs were added.”

The Obama Administration, with its extreme regulatory policies and leftist economics, hindered manufacturing growth. An analysis by Bloomberg outlines the dilemma: the minimal amount of jobs that are were created were in traditionally lower-paying fields, furthering a transfer of employment from middle income to lower income. Payrolls at middle-class paying factories fell, while jobs in low-paying fields such as retail, leisure, and hospitality fields rose.

In addition to the Trump Administration’s push to lower taxes and ease the regulatory burden, its tough stance on China’s unfair trade policies have had an impact. China has not abided by reasonable trade practices following normalization of commercial relations.  Its resulting domination of several industries resulted in decimating American industrial production and the loss of vast numbers of manufacturing jobs. U.S. News reports that within the first 13 years since normalization, 3.2 million American factory jobs were lost.

A specific example of how President Trump’s tough stance on China has produced results can be seen in a study of the U.S. aluminum manufacturing sector. The Economic Policy Institute found in December that “One and a half years ago, the U.S. primary aluminum industry was hanging on by a thread. Between 2010 and 2017, 18 of 23 domestic aluminum smelters shut down, eliminating roughly 13,000 good domestic jobs. In 2016, there were three alumina refineries supplying U.S. smelters; by 2017, only one remained in operation… after the Section 232 tariffs were imposed on aluminum (and steel) on March 8, 2018, the domestic producers of both primary aluminum and downstream aluminum products have made commitments to create thousands of jobs, invest billions of dollars in aluminum production, and substantially increase domestic production.”

Media Decries “Right wing” Violence, But Ignores Antifa Violence

This article was written by the distinguished retired judge, John H. Wilson

The violence perpetrated by members of the ironically named Antifa, short for “anti-fascist,” is well known.  This loose-knit group of various anarchist and left wing organizations, was responsible for riots in Berkeley California, where violence has occurred on an almost regular basis since last year. l  This year, the center of protest has become Portland, Oregon where Antifa activists are blocking the streets, and harassing motorists.

Yet, when we read about Antifa, we often find sympathetic portrayals of their activities.  Time Magazine featured a story about Julia, who “helped found a group called Pastel Bloc, whose members wear disarming pinks in the streets as they provide water and support to other ‘antifascist’ activists who might be engaged in more disruptive actions.”  The author goes on to describe Pastel Bloc “as sort of a medic crew with fairy-dust slogans like ‘Resistance is Magic.’”     When the mugshots of Antifa protestors arrested for rioting were published by the Berkeley Police Department, Newsweek called it “a ‘disturbing’ move,” and quoted Veena Dubal, a law professor at the University of California, who likened the exposure to a “public shaming exercise,” that “could be risking the safety of protestors by sharing their identities on social media.”

Most news stories portray the activities of Antifa as simply counter protests to right wing groups, who are almost always described as “Nazis.”  This past August, for instance, a “Say No to Marxism” rally was described as “far-right,” while the counter protesting Antifa were described as a reaction to  Berkeley becoming “a target of the alt-right shortly after Trump’s 2016 election victory.”

In fact, the rise of Antifa can be traced to last year’s violent Black Lives Matter protests in Charlottesville, Virginia, and to the efforts made by the Berkeley College Republicans to bring a series of speakers to the campus.  In February of 2017, Milo Yiannopoulos cancelled his planned speech when riots broke out, however, in September of last year, Ben Shapiro spoke at Berkeley amidst the inevitable violence and protests by Antifa.

At first, the stories printed in the media regarding these speakers involved whether or not these speakers should be allowed to speak in the first place,  and whether or not they should be boycotted.   But soon, the emphasis was placed on Antifa being a justified reaction to violence on the right.  CNN’s Chris Cuomo this past August claimed Antifa activists are “on the side of right” because their actions are done “in the name of stamping out hate.”

Cuomo’s truly oblivious comments came in the wake of this year’s violent anniversary protest in Charlottesville, where protestors assaulted an NBC reporter and police officers.

This media game of “blame the victim” has now reached New York City.  Recently, the headquarters of the Metropolitan Republican Club were vandalized.  Windows were broken, Capital A’s in circles (a symbol for Anarchy) was spray painted on the doors, and a note left behind, promising this attack was “only the beginning.”    The note makes clear that this act of violence was a protest against the Club for daring to host Gavin McInnes, the founder of a group called the “Proud Boys.”

It has a negative impact over unica-web.com buy viagra on line the health of your pelvic floor. Founded in 2016, the Proud Boys feature a photo of General George Patton on their emblem, and state that they are “Western chauvinists who refuse to apologize for creating the modern world.”  They claim not to be Alt-right, but do long for the day when “girls were girls and men were men.”

They have drawn the inevitable designation as a “hate group” from the Southern Poverty Law Center,  who, it should be noted, has 210 listings under their section “Hatewatch” for groups labeled “Alt-right,” but NONE for any group identified as “Antifa” or “anti fascist.”

To date, the NYPD has not been able to identify the perpetrators of this crime.  However, now the focus has shifted from the damage done to the Metropolitan Republican Club, to the arrest of three men who allegedly assaulted a protestor during Mr. McInnes’ appearance at the Club, ignoring the fact that a group had appeared to protest the speaker’s appearance in the first place.

Knowing never to waste a crisis, NYC Public Advocate Tish James immediately decried the “hate fueled mob violence” of the “neo-fascist, white supremacist Proud Boys group” and called upon the Manhattan DA to pursue hate crime charges against the three, even though the NYPD states that it is “unclear” that the men arrested were members of the Proud Boys.

After the Charlottesville riots in 2017, President Trump made a statement regarding the violent clash between Antifa and the alt right that was roundly excoriated by the left, in which he stated “you had a group on one side that was bad. And you had a group on the other side that was also very violent. And nobody wants to say that, but I’ll say it right now.”   The reaction then was immediate and strong, condemning the President’s remarks as making excuses for “Nazis.”

To date, violence between the far left and the far right, continues unabated.  Then it was Charlottesville; now it is Portland and New York City.  Antifa continue to use violence, while the media focus negative attention almost exclusively on those they call fascists and neo-Nazis.

Perhaps the President was correct in his original assessment – there’s bad on both sides.  But to ignore the behavior of the far left and emphasize the actions of the far right is a disservice.  It will only encourage these clashes to continue and grow.

Pushing a Failed Philosophy

Throughout its existence, socialism has done little more than worsen poverty, create mass murder, and abolish freedom. The experiment has been tried—and failed– throughout the world, in every type of nation, for over a century. Even the president of the latest country destroyed by socialism, Venezuela, has admitted the reality that can no longer be hidden: his nation’s economy, despite the enormous advantage of vast deposits of oil, has collapsed.

The philosophy of the left has powerful and influential advocates within America in politics, the arts, the media, education, and especially among a certain class of billionaires who disdain the masses and seek to establish a top-down system, of course led by them. But how to sell an idea that produced only misery for over a century?  It can’t be done in open debate. It can’t be done through the normal discourse of public discussion. There are no tales of success to entice voters with.

And so, a very different course of action is followed. A relentless overpoliticization of the culture is undertaken, in which every flaw, every shortcoming, every lack of perfection is headlined and dwelled upon incessantly. Imagine a documentary about Babe Ruth that contains only descriptions of the times he struck out.  That is the intellectually dishonest tactic that Progressives adhere to.

Needless to say, the mass murders committed in the Soviet Union, China, and Cambodia, and by the National Socialist of Germany are largely ignored, as are comparisons between North and South Korea, or in the old East and West Europe. A recent survey by The Conference on Jewish Material Claims Against Germany  noted that two thirds of the millennials polled didn’t know about the Auschwitz concentration camp; many don’t even know that the full name of the Nazis was the National Socialist Party.   The stunning human rights violations committed by almost all socialist regimes are overlooked.

While, in the normal course, that strategy would appear paper thin, it succeeds when contrary and realistic evidence is wholly excluded. Moderate and conservative educators, speakers, and texts are diligently excluded from schools.  Courses in history and civics are essentially replaced by indoctrination and propaganda that excludes honest facts. The Communist Manifesto is a frequently prescribed text in university economics classes, and the “Peoples History of the United States” written by communist activist Howard Zinn is widely used in history courses. Those dissenting from these affronts are labelled with every pejorative available. Major newspapers and televised news shows warp the truth. Key social media sites and search engines censor, obscure or otherwise diminish non-leftist perspectives.

Whenever agonizing emotions happen they are usually buried as well as sickened, as well as have misery, deadness, generic levitra online as well as shivering as part of your midsection, fists, guitar neck, as well as mouth, avoid in addition to summon your expert right. President Obama put into action leftist policies on a significant scale.  They did not produce beneficial results, as the economy stagnated, race relations deteriorated, seniors received the smallest social security cost of living increases in living memory, jobs fled overseas, and the middle class became an endangered species. Voters responded by tossing out left-leaning politicians throughout federal and state elections.

Faced with disaster at the ballot box, Progressives reacted with violence and mayhem.  When not rioting or inciting disharmony throughout the population, they sought to abuse the law to attack moderate and conservative lawmakers, think tanks, and individuals.  Obama used the IRS to attack the Tea Party. His attorney general threatened to criminally prosecute those that disagreed with him on climate change.

When the left lost the White House and access to the instruments of the federal government to harass opponents, they resorted to other tactics, some of which are only in the early stages but which will produce significant and worrisome results in the near future. Billionaires Tom Steyer and George Soros have provided extraordinary donations to progressive candidates for what should be not particularly partisan positions such as attorney general.  The reason is clear. Just as the Obama Administration unlawfully used the federal government to beat down opponents, states attorneys general could—some already have– relentlessly entangle moderate and conservative voices in endless rounds of lawsuits.  Faced with the expense and time-consuming challenge of responding, those non-progressive institutions and individuals lose even when they eventually beat the nonsense lawsuits in court.

The inappropriate use of the machinery of government to intimidate and defeat alternative voices, and attempts to prevent dissemination of differing views, are tactics universally employed in left-wing regimes. The well-practiced playbook is now being employed within America.

Updates

A number of important developments have occurred on key issues that the New York Analysis of Policy and Government recently addressed.  Here’s a roundup:

RIGHT TO TRY

In March, we reported that the House of Representatives approved the “Right to Try” bill. The President has now signed the legislation, which allows those terminally ill to use experimental drugs. The common-sense measure authorizes the use of eligible investigational drugs by eligible patients who have been diagnosed with a stage of a disease or condition in which there is reasonable likelihood that death will occur within a matter of months, or with another eligible illness. Trump has been enthusiastic about the measure, even citing it in his State of the Union address.

The bill is modeled off a federal policy known as “Compassionate Use,” but contains several key changes meant to make it faster and easier for patients to obtain experimental therapies. The Right To Try advocacy group notes that “Over 1 million Americans die from a terminal illness every year. Many spend years searching for a potential cure, or struggle in vain to get accepted into a clinical trial. Unfortunately, FDA red tape and government regulations restrict access to promising new treatments, and for those who do get access, it’s often too late…Fewer than 3 percent of terminally ill patients gain access to investigational treatments through clinical trials. Right to Try was designed to help the other 97 percent…While millions of Americans will be diagnosed with or die of terminal illnesses each year, compassionate use exceptions are only granted to about 1,200 patients a year. Many patients run out of time before they can qualify for the exemption or complete the process. Right To Try laws help patients get immediate access to the medical treatments they need before it’s too late.”

BIKE LANES

In May, we reported how the use of state and local funds to build bike lanes was wasteful. There’s new evidence to back that up. A Daily Mail review found that Seattle’s new bike lane costs the taxpayers an absurd $12 million per mile. As The New York Analysis of Policy and Government noted in May, studies have found that only  about 0.6% of commuters  can make use of these lanes. The other 99.4% could be inconvenienced by them.

The Wall Street Journal reported that in cities including Baltimore, Philadelphia, Seattle, Boulder and even the trendy-friendly borough of Brooklyn, NYC, citizens are rising up against the practice of carving up roads for bike lanes. The publication found that ““Retrofitting city streets for protected bike lanes can be pricey. A master plan prepared for Baltimore’s Transportation Department recommended adding 52.5 miles over five years at a cost of $26 million…” Author and futurist Syd Mead, writing in The Los Angeles Daily News noted: “While the bicycle has many virtues, it also prompts people to go overboard. It’s often lauded as the transportation of tomorrow and the savior of cities. It is not. It is called transportation. It is not… It … operates under rigid limitations: the physical condition (and therefore age) of the rider, seasons and weather conditions, and terrain…Today there is an almost messianic insistence that bicycles should be a part of the urban transit mix. …In large urban centers…using a bicycle to traverse 10, 15, or 20 miles one-way is simply not a feasible proposition… any cost/efficiency formulae that purport to justify such infrastructure enter the realm of pure fantasy.”

CROWD SIZE

During the 2016 presidential campaign, and in the press reports concerning the Inauguration, The New York Analysis of Policy and Government noted that press estimates of attendees at Trump events significantly underestimated crowd size.  There’s new evidence of that. The Free Beacon  reports that “New York Times reporter Julie Hirschfeld Davis conceded …that President Donald Trump was correct to call out her report, saying her estimated crowd size for his Nashville rally a night earlier was incorrect. Davis’ original report said Trump’s rally attracted approximately 1,000 people, but the fire marshal’s office said they estimated ‘approximately 5,500 people.’ ”

EDUCATION SPENDING

Last November, the New York Analysis of Policy and Government reported that U.S. school systems were “Spending More and Getting Less.”  The New York Post and the Empire Center think tank have recently analyzed data from the biggest-spending state, New York, which spends more per student than any other state.

The results indicate that all those dollars haven’t produced results, notes the New York Post . “A bit more than half the city’s white students show proficiency in math and reading. Fewer than one in 10 black, and fewer than one in five Hispanic, eighth-graders show proficiency in math.” The Wall Street Journal reports that in public schools statewide, 39.8% of students in grades three through eight were proficient in English in the spring, up by 1.9 percentage points from 2016. In math, 40.2% hit that mark, up 1.1 percentage points.  However, there are concerns that even those limited and still poor results are due to watered down exams.

MEDIA BIAS

We have consistently reported on the growing problem of media bias, specifically, the tie-in between left-wing politicians and major news organizations.  A list published in Snopes  outlines some of the familial ties that led to concern during the Obama era:

  • ABC News executive producer Ian Cameron, married to Susan Rice, National Security Adviser.
  • CBS President David Rhodes, brother of Ben Rhodes, Obama’s Deputy National Security Adviser for Strategic Communications.
  • ABC News correspondent Claire Shipman, married to former Whitehouse Press Secretary Jay Carney
  • ABC News and Univision reporter Matthew Jaffe, married to Katie Hogan, Obama’s Deputy Press Secretary
  • ABC President Ben Sherwood, brother of Obama’s Special Adviser Elizabeth Sherwood
  • CNN President Virginia Moseley, married to former Hillary Clinton’s Deputy Secretary Tom Nides.

Roseanne’a Cancellation: Left-wing Authoritarianism

The decision to cancel Roseanne Barr’s TV series following her inappropriate tweet is wholly inconsistent with Hollywood’s tolerance for the most brutal, threatening, racist and sexist remarks made against President Trump, members of his administration, and conservatives in general.

The message is clear and unambiguous:  While left-wingers are free (as all Americans should be) to say anything, Americans will be penalized for criticizing them.  If a Republican, a middle-of-the road politician, or a conservative makes an off-color remark, or one that simply states the truth in a harsh manner, he or she will suffer serious consequences.  As Daniel McCarthy wrote in National Review: “Beware the rise of left-wing authoritarianism: for too many in the chattering classes, the imaginary fascism of Donald Trump … excuses the real-world censorship and intimidation practiced by the illiberal left.”

Since the 2016 election, a stunning quantity of offensive and occasionally violent remarks have been made about President Trump.  The purveyors of these comments have not suffered any significant consequences.

Where are the cancelled contracts and media outrage following Johnny Depp’s public fantasy of assassinating the President? Or Whoopi Goldberg’s dream of torturing Trump? Or Keith Olbermann’s ongoing and obscene rants? Why is there no Hollywood pressure against the comics who belittle the President’s wife, or call his twelve-year old son a “rapist” and “homeschool shooter?” Bill Mahr has described the President as an “Orangutan” and that’s apparently ok with the show biz crowd.  In fact, actors like Robert De Niro frequently call Trump an “idiot,” insulting not only the President but those that voted for him, and that seems to be acceptable.

Why are sexists and racist comments against women and people of color within the Trump Administration such as Press Secretary Sarah Sanders, Deputy Press Secretary Raj Shah, Second Lady Karen Pence, and HUD Secretary Ben Carson apparently ok with the media? When Joey Behar alleged that Vice President Pence had a mental illness because he was a Christian, she didn’t lose her job or have her show cancelled.

Ben Shapiro writes: “The left likes to bully, and it’s good at it…if you’re a conservative in Hollywood you stay underground for fear of firing…as [director] Nicholas Meyer…told me when asked about [anti-conservative] discrimination in Hollywood, “Well, I hope so.” Or as [producer] Vin DiBona…explained to me, “I think its probably accurate [that there’s anti-conservative discrimination] and I’m happy with it actually…”

Writing in The Atlantic Caitlin Flanagan notes that “somewhere along the way, the hosts of the late-night shows decided that they had carte blanche to insult not just the people within this administration, but also the ordinary citizens who support Trump, and even those who merely identify as conservatives.”

There was a clear drive to rein in Roseanne’s show, in which pro-Trump comments, to the utter dismay of Hollywood power brokers, were included.  Shortly before the program was cancelled allegedly in response to Ms. Barr’s tweet, it was announced that the show would be less political in upcoming seasons.  When the star of the program rebelled against that, another excuse had to be found to get her off the air, and that excuse was found. It’s similar to the rather unconvincing reasons the successful Tim Allen program, “Last Man Standing” which also contained pro-conservative quips, was dropped.

In a nation guided by the First Amendment, comments, even those that are tasteless, about political figures should be protected.  Increasingly, that’s not the case for anyone left-wing power brokers dislike. From universities, where centrist and conservative speakers are chased off campus, frequently through violence, to the mainstream media and Hollywood moguls, there has been established a climate of fear and repression aimed directly at those who refuse to kowtow to leftist beliefs. It is a profound danger to the future of freedom in our land.

The Continuous Attack on Free Speech, Part 2

The New York Analysis concludes its latest review of the ongoing attacks on the First Amendment.

How extreme is this threat getting? Consider California State Senator Pan’s proposed legislation,  which reads: “This bill would require any person who operates a social media, as defined, Internet Web site with a physical presence in California to…prominently display a link on the site to a disclosure informing users how the site determines what content to display to the user, the order in which content is displayed, and the format in which content is displayed, and to inform users of the site’s strategic plan to mitigate the spread of false information, among other things. With respect to a social media Internet Web site that utilizes factcheckers to verify the accuracy of news stories, the bill would require the disclosure to state what policies and practices the factcheckers use to determine whether news stories are accurate and what the site does with the content that the factcheckers determine is not accurate.”

A key problem with Pan’s proposal, among others, is that many of the “fact checking” organizations which are on the list to consult are politically biased, as a number of studies, including those by George Mason University have revealed.

Ben Kamisar, writing in The Hill describes how the use of biased fact checking is becoming an increased challenge to free speech: “Conservative groups are crying foul after discovering that the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) is helping YouTube decide what content is too offensive for the video platform.”

Kyle Smith, in a National Review article, describes SPLC: “ SPLC… spends far more on direct-mail fundraising pleas ($10 million) than it ever has on legal services, according to an analysis by Philanthropy Roundtable, and has never passed along more than 31 percent of its funding to charitable programs, sometimes as little as 18 percent. Meanwhile it has built itself a palatial six-story headquarters and an endowment of more than $200 million. In essence it is a machine for turning leftist hysteria into cash that portrays itself as a non-partisan, fact-finding group and has long been treated as such by media institutions such as the Washington Post and the New York Times.”

And with Kamagra Polo, you viagra sildenafil canada have got what you always wished and prayed for. It may have aspect consequences devensec.com price for levitra which are life threatening. Consortium News’ Robert Parry writes:  the [NY] Times gives no thought to the potential downside of having a select group of mainstream journalistic entities feeding their judgment about what is true and what is not into some algorithms that would then scrub the Internet of contrary items. Since the Times is a member of the Google-funded First Draft Coalition – along with other mainstream outlets such as The Washington Post… this idea of eliminating information that counters what the group asserts is true may seem quite appealing to the Times and the other insiders. After all, it might seem cool to have some high-tech tool that silences your critics automatically. But you don’t need a huge amount of imagination to see how this combination of mainstream groupthink and artificial intelligence could create an Orwellian future in which only one side of a story gets told and the other side simply disappears from view.”

While federal bureaucratic assaults on free speech, particularly from the FCC which, during the Obama years actually sought to impose government “monitors” in newsrooms and concocted schemes to regulate conservative news outlets have diminished, the threat continues. The Washington Examiner’s  Paul Bedard found that “Democratic efforts on the Federal Election Commission to punish media and stifle voices like the Drudge Report and Fox are going ‘underground’ after failing in public, according to the agency’s outgoing defender of media and digital outlets… Lee Goodman… ‘The desire to regulate Americans’ political speech on the internet remains alive and well here at the commission and now even in Congress,’ added Goodman.”

More chilling than the question of bias, however, is the central concept behind Pan’s proposal, and others like it.  Despite the existence of the First Amendment and centuries of precedent, Pan, like other leftist politicians, pundits and academics, assume that they have the right to pass laws or enact measures that regulate free speech.
