Research confirms massive illegal voting

Non-citizens are voting in U.S. elections, according to an Old Dominion University study.

The analysis examined participation rates by non-citizens using a nationally represented sample that included non-citizen immigrants. It found that “some non-citizens participate in U.S. elections, and that this participation has been large enough to change meaningful election outcomes including electoral college votes and Congressional elections.  Non-citizen votes likely gave Senate Democrats the pivotal 60th vote needed to overcome filibusters in order to pass health care reform and other Obama priorities in the 111th Congress.”

The Harvard study was an academic project involving teams of researchers located throughout the United States. The CCES findings support the allegations that enough illegal votes were cast in 2008 to turn the tide in close races to favor Democratic candidates and provide them with victories…Though the Harvard study was originally designed to dispel claims of widespread voter fraud, the results proved otherwise. As the problems presented by illegal immigration continue become more greatly understood, battle lines continue to be drawn between those who seek to resolve the challenges posed by it, and those who seek to profit from the unlawful residents.

As always, politics plays a significant role in the conflict. According to the Rasmussen polling organization, a majority of Democrats believe illegals should be allowed to vote.

A May 2015 Rasmussen national telephone survey found “that one-out-of-three Likely U.S. Voters (35%) now believes that illegal immigrants should be allowed to vote if they can prove they live in this country and pay taxes. Sixty percent (60%) disagree, while five percent (5%) are undecided.  Fifty-three percent (53%) of Democrats think tax-paying illegal immigrants should have the right to vote. Twenty-one percent (21%) of Republicans and 30% of voters not affiliated with either major political party agree.”

The reasons are obvious. New arrivals in the U.S. are frequently dependent on government assistance, and Democrats are generally far more prone to favor generous assistance programs. The recent arrivals are also less likely to favor or have significant understanding of the benefits of a traditional adherence to constitutional mandates and rights guarantees, an issue of great importance to Republicans.

More than just votes are involved, however. A Capital Research  study found that refugee resettlement has become a lucrative business. Without effective screening at the border, some of the illegals entering the nation are criminals, impacting the safety of communities throughout the nation. Some of the most severe problems occur in so-called sanctuary cities, where local authorities do not take steps to report or remove illegals.

New York City and New York State are attempting to incorporate non-citizens, legal and illegal, into its body politic.

The measure is consistent with attempts by the New York State Democrat Party to enhance conditions for immigrants, especially illegals. According to the New York Post  “Illegal aliens in New York could have scored billions in Medicaid and college tuition money,  along with driver’s licenses, voting rights and even the ability to run for office, if Democrats had won control of the state Senate last November. A little-known bill, dubbed ‘New York is Home,’ would have offered the most sweeping amnesty available anywhere in the country to nearly 3 million noncitizens living in the Empire State. It would bar police from releasing any information about them to the feds, unless it involves a criminal warrant unrelated to their immigration status. Under the proposed legislation, undocumented immigrants could also apply for professional licenses and serve on juries.”

Ironically, the measure would give illegal aliens greater benefits than those provided to American citizens in some matters. A resident of neighboring New Jersey, for example, would have to pay full tuition at a NY State college, while the illegal would only have to pay the in-state rate.

Those vast numbers of illegal immigrants will have needs for public assistance, and will eagerly vote for politicians who give that help to them. They will do this regardless of the fact that voting by noncitizens is an illegal act.  The same politicians willing to ignore illegal entry into the United States also oppose measures designed to prevent illegal voting. That is why they needlessly complicate this problem.

Americans continue to suffer from high unemployment and rampant underemployment.  Time and again, lowering taxes on individuals to provide them with more expendable income,  and lowering taxes and regulations on corporations to allow them to hire more people within the U.S. has worked well. Democrat and Republican presidents have successfully used this tactic.  But taxes remain high, and indeed, U.S. corporate taxes remain the highest in the world. The obvious solution pf lowering those rates and easing those regulations  is ignored because too many politicians, on both sides of the aisle, greedily prefer to retain the current, complicated tax code in order to gain from the support of special interests who receive particular benefits.

America faces complicated problems.  But the reason they remain unresolved is the gain those in power gain from over-complicating them for their own benefit.

Illegal Immigration, Power Politics, and Voter ID

The generally lax attitude towards the tidal wave of illegal immigration seems counter-intuitive.

There are dramatically increased costs to government at all levels.  The unlawful arrivals will require taxpayer-funded medical treatment, education for their young, and a host of other services.
