Iran’s People Lose Patience with Regime

In an interview with a New York Post  reporter Eli Lake, Iran’s Shirin Ebadi, a Nobel Peace Prize wrinning human rights author, has called for the end of her nation’s regime. After years of attempting to reform the nation’s government from within, she now believes that the only way to effectuate change is through a regime change.

Ebadi had previously been  reluctant to call for the end of the regime, but now believes it is the only way to restore freedom.  She didn’t advocate for external military intervention, and called for the Iranian people to rise up.  According to Lake, her position is a rebuke to Western progressives who still pine for Iran’s president, Hassan Rouhani, to deliver on the reforms he promised in his 2013 and 2017 campaigns.

Human Rights Watch notes that “Authorities in the security apparatus and Iran’s judiciary continued to target journalists, online media activists, and human rights defenders in an ongoing crackdown, in blatant disregard of international and domestic legal standards…Iranian courts, and particularly the revolutionary courts, regularly fell short of providing fair trials and used confessions obtained under torture as evidence in court. Authorities routinely restrict detainees’ access to legal counsel, particularly during the investigation period… Authorities continued to restrict freedoms of expression, association and assembly and prosecuted dozens of journalists, online media activists, and trade unionists on charges of ‘acting against national security,’ ‘propaganda against the state,’ and ‘assembly and collusion to disrupt national security,’merely for exercising their legitimate rights.”

On August 29, Ali Mojtahedzadeh, the lawyer of six administrators of channels on the social media application Telegram who were close to reformists arrested before the May presidential elections, told Ilna news agency that Branch 15 of Tehran’s revolutionary court had sentenced his clients to three to five years in prison.

In sharp contrast to Barack Obama’s acceptance of the extreme Islamic government in Tehran, President Trump has sharply criticized that nation’s leadership.  In a tweet delivered while substantial protests were occurring around Iran,  he stated “The people of Iran are finally acting against the brutal and corrupt Iranian regime. All of the money that President Obama so foolishly gave them went into terrorism and into their ‘pockets.’ The people have little food, big inflation and no human rights. The U.S. is watching!”

Despite a significant attempt by the Iranian people to reform their government in the 2009 “Green Revolution,” the Obama Administration chose not to support the movement. Gil Hoffman, writing for the Jerusalem Post reports  that Israeli Deputy Minister for Public Policy Michael Oren believes  “The Obama administration’s lack of support for the Green Revolution was part of a pattern in which it did not hold Iran accountable for any provocation. It would seem it was part of a general approach that began in Obama’s first week in office in 2009 of wanting to reach a deal with Iran at pretty much any cost…. Among the Iranian provocations ignored by the Obama administration, Oren listed the crackdown on the protesters, the kidnapping of Americans, having their missile boats provocatively approach American destroyers, trying to assassinate him and his Saudi counterpart in downtown Washington, the failure to follow through on a red line Obama imposed on Syrian dictator Bashar Assad using chemical weapons and Iranian-backed Hezbollah smuggling massive amounts of cocaine into the US.

In January, the largest protests against the Tehran regime spread across Iran. In contrast to the Obama Administration, the U.S. State Department’s  official position stated that “The Iranian people have been expressing their desire for dignified treatment, an end to corruption, improved transparency, and increased economic opportunities. Protestors have also demanded that the regime stop diverting the nation’s wealth to fund military adventurism abroad. Unfortunately, the government continues to imprison and kill those who are brave enough to venture into the street. It is limiting the flow of information into Iran, restricting free speech, and attempting to prevent the outside world from observing its own repression. We support these legitimate aspirations of the Iranian people, and call on the government to allow the free exchange of ideas and information. All of us should be able to enjoy the same basic economic and political freedoms, including the right to peaceful demonstration. We condemn in the strongest possible terms the deaths to date and the arrests of at least one thousand Iranians. We have ample authorities to hold accountable those who commit violence against protestors, contribute to censorship, or steal from the people of Iran. To the regime’s victims, we say: You will not be forgotten.”

Obama Sends Cash to Iran

The Obama Administration’s continuously bizarre relationship with Iran has raised logical, political and now legal questions. While the President’s term is nearly over, Hillary Clinton has promised to continue the president’s Mideast policies, and that makes the need for probing, honest answers an urgent requirement.

In a move that would be more appropriate for a poorly written made for TV movie, the White House sent a plane filled with cash to Tehran, in what was obviously a cash-for-hostage deal. According to the Wall Street Journal “The Obama administration secretly organized an airlift of $400 million worth of cash to Iran that coincided with the January release of four Americans detained in Tehran, according to U.S. and European officials and congressional staff briefed on the operation afterward. Wooden pallets stacked with euros, Swiss francs and other currencies were flown into Iran on an unmarked cargo plane, according to these officials. The U.S. procured the money from the central banks of the Netherlands and Switzerland….”

The White House maintains that the cash is the first installment of a settlement regarding a cancelled arms deal with the deposed Shah of Iran, Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, but the explanation fails to acknowledge that the matter remains in dispute, under review by an international tribunal in The Hague.

The use of cash, as opposed to more conventional international payment means, allows Tehran to provide more clandestine support for terrorists across the globe, and continue its support for Syria’s Bashar al-Assad, who has committed numerous and extreme crimes against humanity, against his own citizenry. Al-Assad is also supported by Moscow.

This strange course of events continues a pattern of deceiving both Congress and the American people concerning the Obama Administration’s relationship with Iran, the leaders of which continue to enthusiastically chant “death to America” numerous times throughout each year.

An administration official, Ben Rhodes, who served as deputy national security advisor, has openly bragged, as noted in a New York Times article, about his ability to deceive the U.S. about the much-criticized nuclear deal. As noted by the Washington Times,  “It seems the goal behind the Iran deal was to extricate the United States from long standing alliances in the Middle East, including Israel. This was done to be able to close the Iran nuclear agreement.”

As serious as that deception was, it doesn’t cover the full extent of the Administration’s intensive lying about its relations with Iran.

Fox News  has found that a State Department official,in a stunning admission, acknowledged Wednesday that an official intentionally deleted several minutes of video footage from a 2013 press briefing, where a top spokeswoman seemed to acknowledge misleading the press over the Iran nuclear deal. ‘There was a deliberate request [to delete the footage] – this wasn’t a technical glitch,’ State Department spokesman John Kirby said Wednesday, in admitting that an unidentified official had a video editor “excise” the segment… Kirby said someone had censored the video intentionally.

There was, and is, more than ample reason for the White House and the State Department to believe that the public and Congress would object to the actual terms of the nuclear deal.

House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Ca.) notes: “The more we find out about the Iran nuclear deal, the worse it looks. Each new day Congress reviews this deal, we discover more information and more reasons why this deal is simply unacceptable:”

  1. Though the deal was originally being negotiated to keep Iran from getting a nuclear weapon, in its final form the agreement would allow just that when it sunsetsin 10-15 years.
  2. This deal will accelerate regional nuclear proliferation. Saudi leaders for instance have said that this deal is worse than the nuclear pact former President Bill Clinton made with North Korea.
  3. Israeli Prime Minster Benjamin Netanyahu saidthis deal will give Iran “hundreds of billions of dollars to fuel their terror and military regime.”
  4. Sanctions relief isn’t tied to Iran complying with the deal, meaning Iran gets massive amounts of reliefbefore they’ve demonstrated strict adherence.
  5. We are all in touch and up to date on the pack you tadalafil cialis have ordered Strictly following the guidelines set forth by the FDA. This purchase generic viagra is because it helps to treat impotence.

  6. And the money can’t be taken back once Iran gets it.
  7. That relief can be used to expand Iran’s malign and destabilizing influence in the region that hasexacerbated sectarian conflict.
  8. The money can also be used to further fund Iran’s terrorist proxies like Hamas, Hezbollah, Assad, and Houthis in Yemen.
  9. In fact, Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, saidthat Iran will not change its anti-American policy.
  10. To enforce the deal, world powers must first know if Iran violated the deal but that is an unclear process that can be delayed for weekswhile Iran would be able to hide and obfuscate banned activities.
  11. Iran doesn’t have to come cleanon its past nuclear activity, leaving world powers little ability to verify future illegal advances.
  12. Iran’s foreign minister interprets the deal very differentlythan the Obama Administration does.
  13. For example, he believes that the scale of foreign investments would effectively prevent the world from re-imposing sanctionson Iran, making the “snapback” provision of the deal effectively meaningless.
  14. He also said that Iran could deny inspectors accessto nuclear and military sites under the deal.
  15. He also said that Iran would not be violating the deal if it broke the UN resolution prohibiting the purchase of conventional armsand missiles because the arms embargo is implicitly out of the scope of the nuclear agreement.
  16. Even if Iran adheres to the arms embargo, the embargo is lifted in 5 years, giving Iran access not only to conventional arms to further fuel terrorism and their drive for regional dominancy.
  17. In 8 years, the missile ban will be removed, allowing Iran to acquire missiles that could carry nuclear payloads.
  18. The Obama Administration pushed for the UN to vote on the dealin an attempt to jam Americans and their elected representatives before they’ve even had a chance to review the deal.
  19. Iran will be allowed to conduct advanced research and developmentthat will pave the way for centrifuges that are modern and efficient. They will be able to enrich huge amounts of Uranium that will shorten their breakout time for a bomb.
  20. The deal also provides sanctions reliefto Iranian military leader Qasem Soleimani, leader of the elite Quds force of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard, who is a designated terrorist who is responsible for the deaths of at least 500 U.S. troops in Iraq and Afghanistan.
  21. On top of that, the deal lifts sanctionson two Iranian atomic scientists who worked on Iran’s illegal nuclear program and a nuclear proliferator who has previously helped smuggle nuclear components.
  22. The murderous Syrian President Bashar al-Assad calledthis deal a “great victory” and congratulated Iran on their achievement.

It’s not just weapons deals that has raised eyebrows when it comes to the odd relationship between Mr. Obama and Iran’s harshly anti-U.S. leaders.

While the Obama Administration supported almost all of the “Arab Spring” movements, including that which replaced the pro-U.S. regime of Egypt’s Hosni Mubarak with that of the Moslem Brotherhood’s Mohammed Morsi, it noticeably failed to support the one portion of the Arab Spring movement that would have been in America’s interest, the “Green Revolution” in Iran.

As noted by the Atlantic “One of the prime missed opportunities of the Obama Administration came during the Iranian “Green Revolution” uprisings of 2009. The President could have advanced American moral and strategic interests by standing up more boldly for the young demonstrators protesting totalitarianism…” The President turned his back on the movement, strengthening the control of one of the most rabidly anti-American governments in existence.

Long overdue: An explanation of Obama’s military and diplomatic strategy

Why hasn’t there been more disclosure on the reasoning, goals, and strategy behind the dramatic shift in American military and diplomatic policy during President Obama’s tenure?

The White House has thoroughly altered the manner in which U.S. national security is maintained. It has also radically amended relations with friend and foe alike. These historic changes have failed to a devastating degree, which makes the lack of explanation about them all the more worrisome.

Substantial reductions have been made in defense budgets, key operative personnel have been cut, major programs have been altered and numerous changes have been made in military leadership positions. The latest information regarding major alterations, as reported in the Washington Free Beacon, reveals that “The U.S. military is set to shutter 15 sites across Europe and reduce the number of active personnel stationed in these areas…This latest realignment follows a series of significant reductions in Europe that have greatly reduced the U.S. military presence there.”

This move comes in the wake of the 2014 withdrawal of American tanks from Europe, the 2015 inability of the Navy (due to budget cuts) to have any aircraft carrier presence in the eastern Pacific for a substantial part of this year, and the elimination or significant reduction of plans for the development of defenses against the growing missile threat not only from major current nuclear powers, but from North Korea and Iran as well.

As America has cut its defense spending, Moscow and China have significantly increased theirs, and North Korea and Iran have moved swiftly to enhance their nuclear capabilities.

With the increased confidence that comes from a more powerful military, Russia has invaded Ukraine and threatened Eastern Europe, both with its strengthened conventional forces as well as with its newly emplaced Iskander short range nuclear missiles which it has stationed along its western border. It has continuously threatened European airspace with fighter aircraft, and it has militarized the Arctic. It has initiated nuclear bomber and submarine patrols off the eastern, western, and southern U.S. coasts.

China has moved aggressively against almost all of its oceanic neighbors, even stealing offshore resources from the Philippines. Obama’s early withdrawal of troops from Iraq gave rise to the opportunity for ISIS to move in, and a similar move with potentially similar results is underway in Afghanistan.

Throughout the globe, Islamic extremism has been on a significant upswing.

Russia, China, and Iran have all significantly increased their military relations with Latin American and Caribbean nations.

Equally notable changes—and failures– have occurred in Washington’s diplomacy.  There has been a dramatic shift in Washington’s relations with allies and adversaries.

Relations with the United Kingdom were endangered as a result of the President’s surrendering of British nuclear information to Moscow during the New START treaty negotiations. Relations with Israel have reached an all-time low, at a time when that embattled nation truly needs a solid ally. When a portion of the Philippines exclusive off-shore economic zone was occupied by the Chinese Navy, the U.S. did nothing either diplomatically or militarily, although Washington subsequently agreed to a token increase of military aide and cooperation with Manila, after the crisis had passed.

While estranging old friends and allies, Washington has attempted to endear foes.  It essentially agreed to the Kremlin’s terms on nuclear weapons and anti-ballistic missile systems. It has softened sanctions on Iran without any meaningful gains. It has opened up relations with Cuba, again without obtaining anything worthwhile in response. It has not responded in any significant manner to Beijing’s massive and unprecedented cyber-attacks on American military, governmental, and civilian infrastructures. It has encouraged Arab Spring movements that have strengthened al Qaeda, while toppling the pro-U.S. regime of Hosni Mubarak. Interestingly, the one Arab Spring movement it did not endorse was the “Green Revolution” in Iran which had as its target the vehemently anti-U.S. regime in Tehran.

An explanation of the logic and intentions behind Mr. Obama’s comprehensive and failed national security and diplomatic policy is long overdue.

White House Adviser Works Against U.S.

While the specifics of international diplomacy occasionally require a degree of discretion, the broad outlines of policy in a free nation require the consent of an informed citizenry.

In its dealings with Iran, the Obama Administration continues to pursue a path mostly hidden from the American public.  Largely, this appears due to the influence of White House adviser Valerie Jarrett.

Ms. Jarrett has had extensive personal ties with Iran and Iranian personnel. It has been reported that she has pursued extensive hidden negotiations with Tehran that have had a significant role in clandestinely shaping U.S. Middle Eastern policy.

An example of Ms. Jarrett’s influence can be seen in the odd refusal of the White House to support Iran’s “Green Revolution.”  Although Mr. Obama supported just about every other “Arab Spring” movement, (elements of which were not in U.S. interest) he failed to support the attempt by Iranians to modify the extremist and totalitarian policies of their nation, which would have greatly benefited both America and Middle East peace in general.

Among the more egregious results of this has been the softening of sanctions, which have allowed Iran to move forward with its nuclear weapons program.

Iran is behind much of the turmoil in the region.  Notably, it has supplied rockets to Hamas  which has led to the current turmoil between Israel and Gaza.

Clearly, Ms. Jarrett’s agenda, accepted by the Obama Administration, is directly detrimental to American interests, and is kept in the shadows for that reason.

Obama’s Failed Terrorism Policies

The catastrophic failure of the Obama Administration’s policies towards towards the Islamic world in general and radical Islam in particular is becoming increasingly evident.

Nowhere is this more evident than in the fate of Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, the leader of ISIS, the Islamic State of Syria and Iraq, a purely terrorist entity which now controls an area the size of Massachusetts and is, according to the Arab news source al-Arabiya reportedly even issuing its own passports.

Al-Baghdadi, the new Osama Bin Laden, was actually in American custody until he was released by Mr. Obama in 2009.  Despite his rise to prominence following his release, the identical mistake has been made again in the release of the Taliban 5, prominent terrorist figures freed by the White House this year.

Elsewhere, we have seen the Administration’s inexplicable assault on Libya’s Muammar al-Gaddafi, who no longer threatened threatened the west, a move which gave rise to new opportunities for al-Qaeda in that nation; the White House’s vigorous endorsement for the overthrow of Egypt’s Hosni Mubarak, a flawed  but pro-peace, pro-American leader which led to the rise of the terrorist Moslem Brotherhood in that nation; the announcement of the withdrawal date of U.S. troops from Afghanistan as the White House negotiates with the Taliban, the same entity that attacked the World Trade Center and the Pentagon; the refusal to even voice any support for the Green Revolution in Iran, which sought to replace that nation’s vehemently anti-American regime; and the continual decline of U.S. relations with Israel, the only true friend the U.S. has in the middle east.

The White House continues to fail to provide any rational explanation of its bizarre actions and policies, which have clearly been to the detriment of the American people.
