Continuing Violations of Civil Rights Under COVID-19, Conclusion

This article, (Part 1 opened the discussion yesterday on the civil rights implications of some government reactions to COVID)  was provided exclusively to the New York Analysis of Policy and Government by the distinguished Judge John H. Wilson (ret.)

Maybe you have noticed that with the exception of Governor DeWine of Ohio, the vast, overwhelming majority of those governors involved in violating the first amendment rights of their residents are Democrats.  We could speculate on the reasons for this – a belief in totalitarianism that usually pervades the left, or an elitist conception that as leaders of society, they inherently know what is best for the rest of us, or even possibly justifiable, yet cynical fears of being blamed politically if the virus causes too many illnesses and deaths “on their watch” – but such speculation is unnecessary.  It is a matter of empirical evidence that in most instances, Republican state and local officials are more likely to be protective of individual rights than are Democrats.

To put as fine a point on this proposition as possible, witness recent events in Texas.  There, the owner of Salon A in Dallas, Shelley Luther, dared to open her business in violation of the stay at home order of the local Dallas County Commission.  Dallas County had extended their order past the deadline set by Governor Greg Abbott (Republican) for reopening businesses across the state of Texas. Ms Luther found herself charged with the violation of that local order.  Judge Eric Moye’, who is described by the Dallas News as “a Democrat elected to the 14th District Court in 2008,” issued both a $7,000 fine and a temporary restraining order against Ms Luther.  When Ms Luther opened her business anyway, Judge Moye’ demanded she apologize for her “selfishness.”  When she refused, Ms Luther was found in contempt, and sentenced to 7 days in jail.  

During her refusal to apologize, Ms Luther described her reasons to violate the judge’s order –  “I have to disagree with you, sir,” she said, “when you say that I’m selfish because feeding my kids — is not selfish. I have hair stylists that are going hungry because they’d rather feed their kids. So sir, if you think the law is more important than kids getting fed, then please go ahead with your decision but I am not going to shut the salon.” 

Local Democratic officials were quick to support Judge Moye’.  Texas State Representative Rafael Anchia, for instance, said Judge Moye’ was fair, but “he also leans into doing his job.”  (Quick aside – when was the last time a Republican was described as “leaning in” to their work?  Isn’t that just another way to say, “activist judge?”)  But Republican legislators were just as quick to side with Ms Luther.  Republican Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton stated, “I find it outrageous and out of touch that during this national pandemic, a judge … would jail a mother for operating her hair salon in an attempt to put food on her family’s table,” while Republican Texas Governor Greg Abbott “issued a statement saying he disagreed ‘with the excessive action‘ by the judge — and suggested that ‘there are less restrictive means’ than jailing Luther while ensuring public safety during the outbreak.” 

While discussing Ms Luther’s treatment, Governor Abbott also made a very important point on the Sean Hannity Show – While Ms Luther was incarcerated by a Dallas County judge, “The Dallas County district attorney announced a policy that he is not going to prosecute any thief who steals things valued at less than $750.  At the same time, authorities in Dallas are talking about releasing inmates from prison or jail because of the possibility of contracting COVID-19.”

Within a day of Judge Moye’s order, Ms Luther was freed by order of the Texas Supreme Court. At the same time, Governor Abbott issued another Executive Order removing incarceration as a penalty for violations of social distancing orders, whether his or those issued by local authorities.

We, as citizens and residents of the United States, must be ever vigilant, and ever ready to assert and protect our rights.  Like Ms Luther, we must be willing to stand up to petty tyrants and their authoritarian overreaches.  In most cases, from the evidence gathered here, one party is more likely to stand with us – the Republican party.

Continuing Violations of Civil Rights Under COVID-19

Every day, we are witness to the battles being fought between the authorities and the citizenry.  The cause of this conflict?  The on-going violations of the Constitutional Rights of US citizens and residents by state and local authorities. 

In my last article, I described the emergency powers held by the states to guard the health and welfare of their residents.  I also noted that these powers do not supersede the rights we hold under the United States Constitution – we still have the right to freedom of speech and peaceful assembly guaranteed under the First Amendment.  Unfortunately, too many state and local governments continue not to know where the powers of the state end and the rights of the individual begin.

Worst of all for our Republic, it appears that one political party in particular does not show respect for our God-given rights as free people.

In New Jersey, where Governor Phil Murphy (Democrat) has publicly admitted that taking the Bill of Rights into account during his exercise of authority is “above his pay grade,” the “public health emergency” has been extended until the middle of June.   In response to a peaceful protest numbering in the hundreds, Murphy’s state police brought a criminal charge against the protest’s organizer, 48 year old Stephanie Hazelton, claiming she violated the Governor’s Executive Order prohibiting large gatherings during the pandemic. 

Clearly, a governor who admits he is not familiar with the Bill of Rights can’t be expected to understand that the right to peacefully assemble is enshrined in the very first of those amendments.  But why extend the emergency in New Jersey at all?  As of early May, 2020, the number of coronavirus cases in New Jersey is on the downswing.  All counties show decreased growth in new cases, with many counties showing less than 100 deaths per 100,000 people (0.1 percent). 

Ostensibly, Governor Murphy claims that long-term facilities, such as nursing homes, are still a concern.  Yet, in one of the better examples of talking out of both sides of his mouth, according to CBS News, the Governor claimed “the extension of the emergency declaration does not mean the restarting of the economy will be delayed, though no hard date for when business can open has been announced.”

Then, there is Raleigh, North Carolina, where police arrested one out of 100 protestors for violating the Executive Order of Governor Roy Cooper (Democrat).  In most states, you don’t need to be at a protest to feel the long arm of the law on your shoulder.  In Colorado (Governor Jared Polis – Democrat), a man called the police and reported his roommate for having two friends over – the roommate and two friends were arrested for violation of “the self-quarantine order.” In Hawaii (Governor David Ige – Democrat), nine people were arrested for violating “stay at home” orders, / and in California (Governor Gavin Newsom – Democrat), as described by the LA Times, “a paddle boarder was arrested Thursday after ignoring lifeguards’ orders to get out of the ocean near the Malibu Pier despite beach closures.” 

Yes, you read that last one right.  One person, alone on a paddleboard in the ocean, was arrested for violating social distancing orders.  Did I mention the paddleboarder was by himself?

In Brooklyn, New York, you can get arrested for going to the barber shop,  but that rule seems to only apply to African Americans.  If you are Jewish, you can’t go to funerals.    And in other jurisdictions, you can be a crime victim and still be arrested for violating social distancing rules.  In Lorain, Ohio, a man who was shot in the leg by an unknown assailant was himself charged with violating Governor Mike DeWine’s (Republican) stay at home order. 

In Pennsylvania, you can also be arrested for violating social distancing rules if you crash your car, but to be fair, in that case, the man involved “was found to be in possession of 14 cans of baby formula, 3 cases of Red Bull and 2 cases of bottled water which were later determined to be stolen from a Weis Markets in Manheim Township, Lancaster County.” Nonetheless, a charge for violating Governor Tom Wolf’s (Democrat) Executive Order was added by the local police.

Democrats Fail to Acknowledge COVID Errors

The‌ ‌stunning‌ ‌mistakes and misdeeds‌ ‌of‌ ‌Democrat‌‌ elected officials‌ in dealing with COVID-19 must be accounted for.‌ ‌At the national, state and local levels, serious and, for many, irreparable harm has been caused.

Election law specialists Hans A. Von Spakovsky and J. Christian Adams, writing for Heritage, explain:

“We always knew that liberals considered federalizing control over elections to be an important priority. We just never dreamed it was more important than fighting the coronavirus pandemic or preserving American jobs… Pelosi’s plan would smash key safeguards to clean elections. Not only would the bill bar states from requiring notarization or witness signatures on absentee ballots, it would ban any type of ID requirement. Moreover, it would require states to allow completed absentee ballots to be picked up by candidates, political consultants, and party activists (ballot harvesting).”

Rep. Chris Stewart (R-Utah) noted in a Hill article: “The release of text of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi‘s (D-Calif.) version of coronavirus relief legislation this week took many Americans by surprise. Brazen even by today’s standards, the bill was a porkfest of new spending, unpopular mandates, and election interference designed to give Democrats the upper hand rather than giving Americans a hand up.  Expecting fast action on legislation to provide immediate relief to workers, Americans watched a bipartisan compromise bill in the Senate go down in flames. Instead, Democrats made a cynical bet that Americans would be forced to swallow whatever Pelosi could stuff into a 1,000+page bill. The contents of that bill laid bare the Democrats’ shameful strategy to leverage the crisis for political gain.”

New York is a primary example of incompetence on the state and local levels. Exploiting George Floyd

What happened to George Floyd was a terrible tragedy.  To those who support Progressive politics, however, it was a great gift.

The U.S. economy had made extraordinary gains, with special momentum for blue collar jobs.  In foreign affairs, the inexcusable mistakes of the Obama Administration were being corrected. Washington was finally fighting back against China’s outrages. The false charges of Russian collusion were finally exposed. The presumptive candidate of the Democratic Party was tottering on the edge of senility.

Progressives had little chances of persuading the public to fulfill Barack Obama’s vision of “fundamentally transforming” America into something radically different than the constitutional, free market entity that had made it the most successful nation on Earth.

Then along came the tragedy in Minneapolis.  Ignoring the fact that Floyd’s death took place in a Democratic, progressive-run city, as did other, similar outrages (think Rodney King in Los Angeles, or Eric Gardner in New York) the Left moved swiftly to irrationally blame the White House, and, indeed, America as a whole.

Pay careful attention to the allegations of systemic discrimination, followed by calls to defund the police.  The goal has nothing to do with George Floyd or racial bias.  It is a cynical and deceitful drive by the increasingly powerful Socialist movement to wholly replace the American system of government, beginning particularly with law enforcement.

The fact that the charges of “systemic discrimination” were unsupported by facts didn’t matter.  Anyone who questions that premise is swiftly labelled a bigot, ending any discussion. Nevertheless, the false narrative of police eagerly killing black men doesn’t have a factual basis.

Obviously, a lack of protection would lead to chaos. What do Progressives suggest replace police?  Law Enforcement Today provides the answer:

Foreign Policy Update

CHINA

State-sponsored repression against all religions continues to intensify in China. In the newly-released 2019 report on International Religious Freedom, Secretary of State Michael Pompeo said the “Chinese Communist Party is now ordering religious organizations to obey CCP leadership and infuse communist dogma into their teachings and practice of their faith.  The mass detentions of Uighurs in Xinjiang continues.  So does the repression of Tibetans and Buddhists and Falun Gong and Christians.”

Pompeo released a statement earlier in the week calling China’s attempts to take advantage of the US domestic situation to press their political agenda “obscene.” He noted that there is no equivalence between the two forms of government. The United States uses rule of law; China does not.  The US has free speech and embraces peaceful protest, he added, and China does not.  “We defend religious freedom; as I just noted, China continues its decades-long war on faith,” according to Pompeo. Relations between the US and China have grown even more tense since the onset of the COVID-10 virus. It shows no signs of abating and there are indications it may escalate given China’s belligerent behavior.

HONG KONG

It appears likely the United States is going to impose a cost on the decisionmakers who denied this freedom to the people of Hong Kong, accord to Secretary Pompeo.  He pointed out that Hong Kong is no longer a highly autonomous region. “That means that the behavior and the relationships that we have with Hong Kong will look more like the relationships we have with China,” he said. Previously, the preference set that was given to Hong Kong as a result of the Chinese commitment to freedom in Hong Kong and one country and two systems “will begin to look less and less like there are really two systems as a reflection of the fact that there aren’t,” Pompeo added.

In the coming weeks President Trump is expected to propose a range of responses that Washington will implement , so in cooperation with its international partners. The world, Pompeo said, has come to understand that a “commitment from the Chinese Communist Party is no longer something that they can rely upon, and that has real implications for how we ought to respond to what they’re doing in Hong Kong today.” The Secretary indicated that the Administration is very concerned that Hong Kong’s leadership will try to delay or cancel the upcoming September elections if the result appears uncertain or leaning againshe Secret Beijing. If the situation further deteriorates Pompeo said the US is looking at the possibility of welcoming the entrepreneurial people of Hong Kong into the United States.

IRAN

The continuing threat from the Islamic Republic of Iran remains, according to Pompeo, as it has continued to violate a number of its nuclear commitments that it signed up for under the JCPOA. The US campaign to hold Iran in check is ongoing and Washington is adding pressure on the regime.

The Secretary announced the end of the sanctions waiver covering all remaining JCPOA-originating nuclear projects in Iran – the Arak reactor conversion, the provision of enriched uranium for the Tehran Research Reactor, and the export of Iran’s spent and scrap research reactor fuel following a final, 60-day wind-down period allowing companies and entities involved in these activities to cease their operations. Pompeo said that the United States has “put resources in place to deter Iranian aggression on the ground.”  He pointed to Washington’s diplomatic power in “uniting the world in a number of ways with respect to Iran’s terrorism.” Starting on October 18 the Russians will be able to sell equipment to Iran, and they appear to be preparing to do so. The Chinese also will be able to sell tanks to Iran. Pompeo added that Washington has “a plan that we believe will successfully prevent that from happening… It’s too dangerous to the world to allow Iran, after just what would be now five years of the agreement, to be able to again arm themselves, purchase high-end weapon systems from the Russians and the Iranians, making it even more difficult for us to stop them from building out their nuclear program.

China Believes it’s Destiny is to Rule

Claims of a period of “recovery of lost glory” is a central narrative emanating from the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) today.  President Xi Jinping and the CCP senior leadership recount the last dynastic period under the reign of Kangxi as the norm against which it measures its military, political, and economic strength today. China’s leaders take political cover under the red banner of returning to China what is rightfully owed to it by the West. President Xi employs this narrative to defend his country’s theft of foreign intellectual property, territorial incursions on neighboring countries, and even uses it to justify espionage operations inside the United States. 

Over the last decade the Obama Administration did little to discourage or punish China for illicitly acquiring and diverting critical and emerging American technologies. Times have changed in 2020. In response to Xi’s recent egregious behavior President Trump called the Chinese leader’s bluff on May 29, 2020, just days before the 31st anniversary of the massacre at Tiananmen Square. He issued a presidential proclamation suspending entry of a targeted group of nonimmigrant students and researchers from China into the United States.

A presidential proclamation is a set of written instructions from the President aimed at those outside of the US Government. It is similar to the purview of an Executive Order which governs presidential directives on internal Executive Branch activity. The recent “Suspension of Entry” proclamation states that China is using unrestricted entry into the country to engage in a “wide-ranging and heavily resourced campaign to acquire sensitive United States technologies and intellectual property” to modernize its military and it is a long-term threat to the safety and security of the American people. 

As of June 1, 2020, entry into the US by Chinese who receive funding, are employed by, or conduct research at, or on behalf of, an entity that implements or supports the PRC’s “military-civil fusion strategy” is suspended. The President’s goal is to stop China’s acquiring and diverting critical and emerging technologies to the communist giant which it then incorporates into its advanced military capabilities and plans. As expected after the announcement, Zhao Lijian who is spokesman for China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, blasted the order saying China’s students have “lawful rights and interests” in receiving an American education and technology.

The presidential proclamation also instructs Secretary of State Pompeo to determine if Chinese nationals already on US soil under F or J visas present a threat and should have their visas suspended. The document itself is clear and doesn’t impact Chinese students in fields that lack a military application. The practicality of defining what is a dual-use technology is less well-delineated. While a positive step toward securing critical and emerging US military technologies and American commercial intellectual property, more needs to be done to stop the infiltration of Chinese spies in the United States.

While at Boston University she used WeChat to collaborate with, and report to, her Chinese superiors regularly on her research concerning a risk assessment model designed to decipher data for military applications. After the US recognized the People’s Republic of China, Washington issued visas to about 12,000 Chinese students each year. Twenty years later that jumped to 98,235 studying on American university campuses across the country. By 2019 the number more than trebled to over 369,500, making the US the top destination for Chinese studying abroad. In a typical year only 12,000 American students study in Chinese universities. Most are in non-STEM programs, with many there only to study the language. 

There is a different narrative in American academia where a full 1/3 of the total international body of students in American universities comes from communist China, with most paying the full price to attend school. Universities eager to accept the lucrative “cash cow” STEM students from China often overlook the national security implications. FBI agents visiting Ivy League school administrators, including those at Harvard University, find the schools typically dismiss the threat as a non-issue or have no plan in place to monitor or restrict access to sensitive technologies and research. It could be naivete if not for the fact that Chinese students added over $13 billion to the US economy during the 2017-18 school year.

Patriotism vs. Party Loyalty

The American Republic is facing an unprecedented moment that will define how its citizens relate to each other, and to the nation itself.  It will reveal whether its people have more loyalty to party than to country, and whether partisanship exceeds patriotism. 

After a prolonged, expensive and thorough investigation by professionals antagonistic to Donald Trump, it has become manifestly clear that the entire “Russian Collusion” charge levied against him was utterly and knowingly false. The apparatus of the American judicial and intelligence services was, in essence, kidnapped to overturn the legitimate results of a fair election.

Those with similar affiliation conspired to coverup crimes committed by Trump’s 2016 opponent, Hillary Clinton, and the Administration she was a major part of.

During the Obama Administration, major portions of the federal government were essentially stolen and turned into arms of Trump’s opposition. It is indisputable that IRS official Lois Lerner intentionally and illegally used her agency to harass and abuse White House opponents. It is also evident that then-attorney general Loretta Lynch used the Department of Justice for political purposes, issuing groundless subpoenas for the sole purpose of discouraging disagreement with Barack’s views.

Throughout the eight years of that Administration, there was little difference between the Democratic National Committee and several federal agencies.  No punishment resulted. Nor, for political reasons, was there punishment for Hillary Clinton’s blatant abuse of her office for personal financial gain, in a manner that jeopardized the national security of the Unites States. It is difficult to come to terms with a former First Lady, U.S. Senator, and Secretary of State agreeing to sell the basic ingredient of nuclear weapons to an enemy nation in return for pecuniary gain—and receiving no punishment for it.

The outrage these acts would expectedly engender has been effectively quelled by a media that has abandoned its journalistic ethics by refusing to adequately cover the crimes of the politicians and bureaucrats they favor.

Despite that, leading members of the House of Representatives intentionally sought to destroy the Trump Administration based on information that House leaders knew to be false. 

Elected members of Congress will not constitute Barr’s targets, but members of the intelligence services, and in particular former CIA director John Brennan, some individuals within the FBI, and other bureaucrats probably will.  

The salient question is: With the facts now demonstrably clear, will Democratic leaders seek to counteract the vital investigation?  Will the leftist media seek to ignore the facts and coverup the lies of those involved, as they did in the aftermath of the Benghazi attack?

The answer to that question will reveal whether those politicians place justice above party interest, and loyalty to country above partisanship.

The U,S, State Department has issued its report on human rights throughout the world. The New York Analysis of Policy and Government will review the segments covering China, Russia, and Venezuela.

Venezuela is legally a multiparty, constitutional republic, but for more than a decade, political power has been concentrated in a single party with an authoritarian executive exercising significant control over the judicial, citizens’ power (which includes the prosecutor general and ombudsman), and electoral branches of government, and standing up a parallel, illegitimate legislative body alongside the existing elected one. On January 10, the term of former president Nicolas Maduro ended. He sought to remain in power based on his claimed “victory” in the 2018 presidential elections widely condemned as neither free nor fair, a claim not accepted by the democratically elected National Assembly (AN). On January 23, Juan Guaido, as president of the National Assembly, assumed the role of interim president pursuant to the provisions of the constitution related to vacancies. Former president Maduro, with the backing of hundreds of Cuban security force members, refused to cede control over the instruments of state power, preventing interim president Guaido from exercising authority within the country. In the 2015 legislative elections, opposition political parties gained supermajority (two-thirds) control of the AN. The former Maduro regime, however, used its control over the Supreme Court (TSJ) to create the illegitimate Constituent National Assembly (ANC) that placed the AN in contempt, usurped its constitutional role to legislate, and weakened the constitution’s separation of powers principle.

Civilian authorities’ control over the security forces declined and was deeply politicized. The National Guard (GNB)–a branch of the military that reports to both the Ministry of Defense and the Ministry of Interior, Justice, and Peace–is responsible for maintaining public order, guarding the exterior of key government installations and prisons, conducting counternarcotics operations, monitoring borders, and providing law enforcement in remote areas. The Ministry of Interior, Justice, and Peace controls the National Scientific Criminal and Investigative Corps (CICPC), which conducts most criminal investigations, and the Bolivarian National Intelligence Service (SEBIN), which collects intelligence within the country and abroad and is responsible for investigating cases of corruption, subversion, and arms trafficking. Police include municipal, state, and national police forces. Mayors and governors oversee municipal and state police forces. The Venezuelan National Police (PNB) reports to the Ministry of Interior, Justice, and Peace. According to its website, the PNB largely focused on policing Caracas’s Libertador municipality; patrolling Caracas-area highways, railways, and metro system; and protecting diplomatic missions. The PNB maintained a minimal presence in seven of the country’s 23 states.

Significant human rights issues included: unlawful or arbitrary killings, including extrajudicial killings by security forces of the former Maduro regime, including colectivos (regime-sponsored armed groups); forced disappearances; torture by security forces; arbitrary detention by security forces; harsh and life-threatening prison conditions; political prisoners; unlawful interference with privacy; and lack of judicial independence. Nongovernmental organizations (NGOs) noted that many victims did not report violent crimes to police or other regime authorities due to fear of retribution or lack of confidence in police. The former Maduro regime backed by Cuban security force members refused to cede power, preventing the interim government from taking action.

Although the former Maduro regime did not release statistics on extrajudicial killings, NGOs reported national, state, and municipal police entities, as well as the armed forces and regime-supported colectivos, carried out such killings during the year.

There was also no official information available on the number of public officials prosecuted or sentenced to prison for involvement in extrajudicial killings, which, in the case of killings committed by police, were often classified as “resistance to authority.”

China Must Be Expelled from the U.N.

The U.N. was born to bring the countries fighting against Nazi Germany and Imperialist Japan together, and to promote a better world following the end of World War 2. The thought of inviting Hitler and Tojo’s regimes into the organization would have been, of course, absurd.

That ridiculous idea, however, is in use by today’s U.N.  The concepts of human rights and peaceful relations are supposedly the central themes of the organization, but governments such as Iran, North Korea, and Communist China are full-fledged members of it.

Those supporting the Peoples Republic of China’s continued presence will undoubtedly say that other nations have committed objectionable acts, and challenge the notion of expelling Beijing. It is a false argument. There is a significant difference between governments that engage in an act or acts which some may find wrong, and those whose entire philosophy, and actions, directly contradict the U.N.’s founding principles.

World attention has been turned towards the ruling Chinese Communist Party (CCP) due to its unconscionable policy in suppressing vital information about the COVID-19 outbreak.  A government with the slightest modicum of decency would not have acted as the Beijing regime did, and apparently still is doing. Nor was COVID the only time Beijing acted irresponsibly in response to a disease outbreak.

China’s influence within the United Nations was significantly responsible for the extent of COVID’s planetary spread. The World Health Organization, which should have alerted global governments of the COVID danger, failed to do so because its Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus gained his position largely through Chinese support and influence.

But China’s horrible COVID-19 crime, which has caused worldwide devastation, is not, by far, that nations’ only offense which makes it unfit for membership.

The U.S. State Department reports that up to two million people have been sent by the Beijing Regime to concentration camps to suppress their religious, cultural or political beliefs. The repression extends beyond minority groups and political dissidents.  Every Chinese citizen is subjected to harsh, Orwellian restrictions even in the most private and intimate portions of their lives. The CCP mandated married couples to restrict their reproductive rights to only one child, a move which has backfired in an extraordinary manner as the nation now faces a massive shortage of young women, since families believed it was in their interest to have sons instead of daughters.

Beijing’s mandarins have established a nightmarish paradigm in which every aspect of a citizens’ life is weighed on how it complies with the CCP’s policies.

Aggression against comparatively weak nations is not Beijing’s only threat to world peace. Its rate of spending on armaments has increased at a pace faster than that of either the United States or the Soviet Union at the height of the Cold War. Beijing is not a signatory to any nuclear arms limitations accord.

There is no logical or moral reason to continue China’s membership in the United Nations. It’s time the Beijing regime was expelled.

The murder of George Floyd was a horrible crime.  So is the reaction to it.

In the aftermath of Mr. Floyd’s death, the officer responsible was fired, and he is going to be prosecuted. Other officers in the vicinity may also be subjected to legal action. That’s precisely how justice is supposed to work.

Peaceful demonstrations are to be expected whenever authority is abused.  But the riots and destruction that have torn through the nation are inexcusable, and appear to have little to do with the actual underlying issue.  

For far too long, the Left has sought any opportunity to enforce their will and gain, by physical abuse and threats, what they cannot win at the ballot box.  They have not helped the downtrodden or minorities; they have merely used them for their own political ends.  This is especially true when it comes to minorities.

Major Progressive politicians seek to gain points by siding with the rioters.  This is especially true in New York, where Governor Cuomo and NYC Mayor de Blasio have done everything short of actually urging violence. They do produce occasional calls for calm and nonviolence, then go on to essentially praise the rioters in guarded terms. The NY State Police Union has condemned Cuomo’s lack of support.

 Consider what these two individuals actually stand for. Cuomo has stated that individuals who disagree with his leftist views should leave the state. De Blasio is in a whole bizarre category by himself.  He cheered on the Soviet Union when it placed combat arms in Latin America.  His administration is mired in financial corruption; his wife “lost” almost a billion dollars meant for the mentally ill. His daughter was arrested at one of the disturbances rocking the city.  He has consistently sided with criminals over his own police force, and now tends to side ideologically with the rioters over those seeking to protect lives and property.

The current riots are similar to ANTIFA actions that have been ongoing for some time. They feature mindless violence directed against innocent bystanders.  The riots the nation is now enduring have nothing to do with Floyd.  The terrible fate of that man is merely an excuse. The White House acted properly in declaring ANTIFA a domestic terrorist organization. 

A black radio announcer in Chicago, a city hard hit by the riots, was furious at the Floyd incident, but believes that the riots have nothing to do with that terrible incident.
